People wanting to maximise their state pension by plugging gaps in their National Insurance record have contributed to a total of 68,673 years, worth £35m, since April last year, HMRC said.

Transgender women born in October and November 1953 have been told by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) they may be eligible for the Women’s State Pension from 31 October 2018 to the date of their 65th birthday.

The State Pension is set to see a significant boost in April with an increase predicted to be around 4%.
