FSCS declares 12 firms in default in 8 weeks

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) has declared 12 regulated firms in default in February and March including major SIPP provider Hartley Pensions. The firms have gone out of business and are unable to meet any compensation claims themselves. The bill for compensation, up to £85,000 per consumer claim, will now be picked up by the FSCS and ultimately the regulated financial sector. The firms declared in default include several financial advice and Financial Planning firms, major SIPP provider Hartley Pensions, a Portuguese-based firm and Liverpool-based stockbroker and investment manager Blankstone Sington.
