Auto-enrolment: Committee to start investigation

An investigation by an influential group of MPs has commenced into automatic enrolment, taking account of the changed context arising from the Budget reforms. The Work and Pensions Committee will carry out the inquiry looking at changing pension taxation arrangements, and introducing Defined Ambition and collective pension schemes.MPs will assess progress made in implementing auto-enrolment since the committee's 2012 report and will also follow up the recommendations in its 2013 report on improving governance and best practice in workplace pensions.Implications of the changes to pension taxation arrangements will be examined, including the ending of the requirement to annuitise and the introduction of Defined Ambition and collective pension schemes. {desktop}{/desktop}{mobile}{/mobile} The committee, headed up by Labour MP Anne Begg, said it was particularly interested in lessons learned from auto-enrolment implementation to date and issues arising from its extension to smaller employers.MPs will also look at progress towards implementation of automatic pension transfers and developments on improving workplace pension governance and administration, including charge levels.MPs have asked for submissions of no more than 3,000 words from interested organisations and individuals.Submissions do not need to address all of the points outlined above.The deadline for submitting evidence is Friday 17 October either via the committee's website or by post to The Clerk, Work and Pensions Committee, House of Commons, 1st Floor, 14 Tothill Street, London SW1H 9NB.
